The sun is out and the time is ripe to join Wedmore Community Power Co-operative so that they can install a 1MW solar array!
The community share offer is due to close on 25th July and shares are still available. There is also a fixed interest rate bond also on offer.
The group’s aim is to install a 1MW ground mounted solar photovoltaic system on the Isle of Wedmore. The project is motivated by a desire from local people to reduce carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. Once operational it is anticipated to save around 450 tonnes of CO2 a year, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of about 300 homes.
The plant will mainly comprise 4,000 panels fixed to aluminium frames; there will be no concrete foundations for the frames as they simply get rammed into the ground. There will be no need for further poles or pylons as connections can be made directly to the grid using the existing poles on site. There will be a small substation on site and about 35 inverters.
