Brecon Beacons-based renewable energy group Llangattock Green Valleys has now sold more than half the shares in its second micro hydro co-operative. The group aims to raise £690,000 by the end of April to build four high-head schemes on the south-eastern side of the National Park.
Together these schemes should generate some 355MWh of renewable electricity a year – enough to power around 90 average Welsh homes.
The schemes will also generate income that will be used to support further sustainable projects and to pay subscribers a projected annual return of 5% (averaged over 20 years). The share offer has received advance assurance from HMRC, so qualifying subscribers should be able to claim Enterprise Investment Scheme tax relief at 30%, boosting the projected return to 7.7%pa.
